The Benefits of EPDM Roofing
Ideal for flat roofing, garages, industrial, commercial and residential properties, there are many benefits to installing EPDM membranes to your roof.
Firstly it’s renowned for its durability and longevity meaning it can last for decades whilst being able to sustain during all seasons throughout the year. As the EPDM rubber roofing membrane is made from a synthetic rubber compound it provides great weather resistance and flexibility whilst being highly resistant to UV radiation and ozone exposure keeping it protected from harsh environments.
Thankfully it’s a low-maintenance material, but it is advised that inspections and cleaning throughout the year are carried out to prolong its lifespan.
Another benefit is that the material can be supplied in large seamless sheets which reduces the amount of potential leak points which is vital when investing in a new roofing system.
It’s also easy to install, which means little disruption and can be applied with a variety of methods such as being mechanically fastened with screws and plates to secure, ballasted with stones or pavers to weigh it down, or fully adhered with glue for EPDM flat roof projects or low-sloped roofs.
Not only is it cost-effective when compared to other materials, but it is also available in environmentally friendly options created with recycled materials or has a reduced carbon footprint.
Some rubbers are prone to cracking when exposed to Ozone and UV. However, EPDM is extremely durable and has excellent resistance to environmental conditions, which is why it is a popular material to use.
Other benefits include:
- Very long-life cycle cost
- Flame Free and easy installation
- Little to no maintenance
- High flexibility and elongation
